When
I started working with Sean, I already had 15 years of weightlifting,
and several years of semi professional tennis and martial arts
under my belt. I was fairly strong (120 lbs dumbbell incline presses
for reps; 305 lbs front squats for reps). Still, after all those
years, I carried a fairly high percentage of body fat. Even excessive
cardio never got me to a point below 10% body fat.
The
first sessions were extremely frustrating, actually the first
6 month were frustrating. It took me forever to get my form right.
Once I did, I wasn’t able to lift as heavy anymore (no cheating),
which was very difficult for my ego. At the same time I saw the
results, but after so many years of doing it wrong, even apparent
success was not enough to keep me consistently on track.
Nutrition:
I have a doctorate in chemistry, and had long, intense discussions
with Sean on this topic. It is possible to know how to do things
right, show others and not being able to do implement them for
oneself.
After
about 3 years, I feel that I have learned how to do things right,
and more importantly, that there is not short cut when it comes
to nutrition and hard work. If I do not get the results I was
expecting, I know that I was cheating.
