"Sean has been such an inspiration in my life. He has been an incredible coach and friend, and I respect him more that I can express. He took the time to evaluate my needs, not just as another athlete and “cookie cutter” program, but one that would work for my body and with my biochemistry. He recognizes the outside factors that hinder performance and increase stress, and he coaches you with all of these things considered." More...

I began working directly with Sean as my bodybuilding coach in July of 2004 as I was preparing to compete at the Washington Ironman. I sought out Sean’s guidance because I was not achieving the results I was striving for in working with a personal trainer from my gym. Although I needed to pull out of the show for personal reasons, Sean and I found what worked with my diet and workout regime. Over the period of 6 weeks that Sean was working with me, my body dramatically improved and had I competed in that show, I would have placed well.

In March of 2005 I decided that I was emotionally ready to handle competing again, and again contacted Sean. I had taken before photos and had my bodyfat hydrostatically tested. I was mortified at the result and did not want anyone to see the photos! There the truth was… 23.6%, and pushing a size 10!! My diet began immediately and we tweaked it throughout the process, and Sean began training with me at the gym. As I had watched train from afar I knew that he rarely didn’t train with others, but I was pretty confident in my own abilities as I had been lifting for about 15 years. I knew I needed to be intense all of the time and that we had a job to do when we were there, and I also knew that he had high expectations for me and I wasn’t going to disappoint him! I was schooled again on correct form and technique and my weight dropped considerably on some exercises. Six weeks out I began posing everyday. Beyond being my training partner, Sean was my coach; someone who I cried to on the phone, who understood the physical and emotional demands that I was placing on my body as he had competed for years, who was that bug in my ear reminding me of proper form when we couldn’t train together, and the one who encouraged me to rethink how I was reacting to my students at school and treating my family, friends, and loved ones. Sean was the COMPLETE COACH, and he never felt burdened in this role!

My accomplishments were astonishing!!! I am going to give myself a little credit here because I didn’t deviate from anything Sean told me to do. I never cheated on my diet (not even a bite of something else), I never missed a workout, worked on my posing and presentation every single day, and I still got in all of my cardio sessions (even if that meant getting up at 4am, which I did regularly). The final result from all of our hard work: 5.9% bodyfat!! Yes, COMPLETELY naturally. On stage at the Oregon State Bodybuilding show, I placed first in the lightweight women’s open division. Three weeks later at the Los Angeles Bodybuilding Championships (where I was perhaps even 1% leaner!), I placed first again! My weight at the LA’s was 110lbs, and a size 0 was too big!

Sean has been such an inspiration in my life. He has been an incredible coach and friend, and I respect him more that I can express. He took the time to evaluate my needs, not just as another athlete and “cookie cutter” program, but one that would work for my body and with my biochemistry. He recognizes the outside factors that hinder performance and increase stress, and he coaches you with all of these things considered. He needed to work intensely on my self-esteem and confidence, and also knew that other trainers/coaches had let me down in the past; so, he had big shoes to fill as well! When I now work with other athletes, I do my best to incorporate some of Sean’s training methods and inspiration into my time with them. Sean really is a master at his craft and still is that voice in the back of my head reminding me to be intense, motivated, and lift properly. I would recommend Sean to anyone who is serious about achieving results and working hard, but who also needs guidance and the right kind of coach with high expectations who will treat you as an individual, believe in you, and respect as a person.
